Lets consider the dinosaurs for a minute. They lived, ate, chased, killed, reproduced and became extinct. At the time, there was nothing remarkable about these large lizards walking around, populating planet earth. IT WAS WHAT IT WAS. A day in the life (or death) of a dinosaur. Nothing to celebrate-right?
Flash forward to present day. We make quite a pursuit of unearthing these “mysteries of before”. They are full of wonder, and are quite a sight to behold, even just as bones. The above photo was taken at the Royal Tyrell Museum, and this T-Rex is presented in a room filled with unique specimens and an air of dignity. What was unremarkable (and maybe even gory) in the past, is seen with new eyes today. It is majestic, amazing, mysterious and in fact, a work of biological art.
In our everyday, we have experiences that may seem unremarkable–IT IS WHAT IT IS. These moments get covered over by the sediment of our lives. Years later, you may trip over a bone from your past as it protrudes into your current day. Do you see it as part of your “gory” past, or do you see an opportunity to unearth, with dignity and compassion, the beauty in your bones?
