We have all heard this childhood song a million times:
Row, row, row your boat.
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream.
Wait a minute! What? Life is but a dream? If we disregard for the moment, the metaphysical, matrix-like implications of this wee song, what else is here?
In my dreams, some stories are typical and others are surprising or puzzling. I am able to go along for the ride, or create a different experience on purpose. It sometimes sounds like this: “Yikes, I am scared in this dream. I need to open my eyes. No, wait…I am going to run!” Or “wow this dream in really nice. I want to stay here”. Then I wake up and am either happy to be away, or trying to find my way back to the sleep induced wonderland I just emerged from. Ah dreams…
So when I consider how life is like a dream–IN LIFE, I AM IN FACT able to go along for the ride, or create a different experience on purpose.
Really, we could talk about the value of dreams (symbolic and real) from many perspectives, and I could be writing all day. What comes up for YOU, on the topic of dreams?
